A Frame Of Mind…

The Older Generation…

People say that the younger generation has a lot to learn about civility. While this may be true, let me take a moment of your time to tell you a little story…

I was on my way to my morning Earl Grey, and saw one of those highway information signs. There had been a serious accident on the route in front of me, and all lanes were closed. People were advised to find an alternate route to their destination, so folks were doing there best to comply. Ahead of me on the right, people were very carefully backing down the entrance ramp. Many had successfully completed the reverse entrance maneuver, so I thought, “why not…”

Sadly, a number of folks had not read the info sign, and were trying to enter the highway. I put the “Shepp” back in drive, and made my way back to the maelstrom. As I made my way along the merge lane, attempting to zipper into traffic, this elderly lady in a silver Honda Civic refused to give way. I had used up the merge lane, and was beginning to encroach on the shoulder. This “person” could see what was happening around her, people just trying to make their way. Rather than practice what she and her generation preaches, civility, she decided to do what she claims my generation does… Be irrefutably RUDE, and refuse me access to the highway. I got beside her, and helped to affirm what she feels about the younger generation… I laid into the big Mark VII horn, and let it rip until I pulled in behind her.

Sad, this “person” is someone’s mother, and someone else’s grandmother. No wonder this country is so f****d up.

I made it to my Earl Grey. Ten minutes later, traffic is flowing just fine. For those just joining the morning rush, there is no knowledge, no memory of what just happened. For them, this is just another statistic, another news event which others will capitalize on.

Someone lost their life today, just trying to do the right thing. Get to work, pay that mortgage, feed the family, be a good provider… The official story is that the driver lost control of her car, wrecking against the guardrail. The car, a Nissan, burst into flames, and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. Being a busy morning commute, one can only terrifyingly imagine what happened next. Others, trying to avoid the wreck, also hit the rail. Fatalities, loss of family, opportunity, and all the trials and tribulations that one enjoys. All snuffed out in a moment… God help us all…

That is all…
