Hippocrates, or HYPOCRITES?
I read a very disappointing article in the Star Telegram this morning about John Peter Smith hospital.
http://www.star-telegram.com/news/story/609399.html
Apparantly they admit to spiking prices just so they can get a bigger chunk of money from the government. Not only are they drastically overcharging those who must pay out of pocket for their care, but they are then getting money from the tax paying citizen. Many of which are those who have no health insurance and are forced to pay the excessive costs at the hospital. Hmm, paying the same bill twice. How does that make you feel?
I guess we were all wrong about Hippocrates. All he ever really cared about was the money when he wrote that Oath thing. Just like some feel the Constitution is open to interpretation, so is the phrase “do no harm.” Maybe what Hippocrates really meant with that was I will do no harm… to myself!!! OR, maybe the folks JPS read the Hypocritic Oath?
Sad how in the land of sun, guns, and greed even this atrocity of “corporate governance” will shock very few…
That is all. Be good to each other, but only if you can profit from it!!!
Birthday Party!
Yesterday, one of the children in the neighborhood had a birthday party, and my eight year old son was not invited. The two little guys go to school together, but are not in the same class. They play together all the time, and seem to be pretty good friends.
I found out aboout the party when my wife went to get us lunch from the BK Diner. She called to let me know not to let my son outside. Apparently they had a huge bounce house, and all the kids were jumping around in it, having a great time. I could not help but feel really bad about the whole thing.
I recalled experiences from my childhood that I thought I had forgotten. I worry that my son will be left behind by the popluar kids for no fault of his own. I worry that the stigma of those events will cause him great pain as he grows to a man.
I grew up to be a fully functional adult, quite content with the direction my life has taken. I have been fortunate. I cannot help but worry however, that some folks do not recover from the events of childhood as well. I guess however, I have not gotten over it completely because my son never found out about the party, and as such could not care less. I however have not been able to stop thinking about it, so here I am blogging about it, and watching Spongebob Squarepants…
That is all. Have a GREAT ride!

Jury Duty!!!
Well, after 26 years of being old enough to vote, I finally received a summons to report to the County Justice Center…
More to follow!
20080420: Well, I did not get selected for Jury Duty. Myself and 49 others queued up for Criminal District Court #4, and headed to the 8th floor of the Justice Center to perform our civic duty. Once there, we filled out a questionnaire, and continued to wait. After about 90 minutes, the judge came out and said we could all go home. Both parties had come to a settlement.
WHAT A BUMMER!!! I really wanted to serve and see how the whole process works. Oh well, maybe in another 26 years I will be invited to the party again! Oh yeah, by that time I will be disqualified due to age.
Have a GREAT day, and take care of yourselves…
